Mark Tholen, M.Arch

Lived, studied architecture and worked in Köln, Stuttgart, Los Angeles, Kansas City, Halifax and Toronto. Sophisticated sustainability is always a ‘green imperative’ in his work. After a handful of large award winning institutional buildings, Mark started his own studio now with the focus on residential projects, prototype prefabrication, laneway houses and mini homes. Mark has extensive teaching experience at Universities in Canada, US and China in studio setting and online, focusing on design and building technology, with award winning design build projects and the integration of digital design and fabrication into the curriculum, always with an understanding of thousand year traditions in the use of materials and methods of construction, from standard principles to extremes of felt making for yurts to Japanese joinery.
